Digital Literacy

 

  • Use computer terminology appropriately:

    • parts – screen, keyboard, touchpad/mouse, mouse button, headphone jack, hard drive, CPU, pointing stick, USB port, power button, Ethernet port

    • Windows – desktop, start, task bar, window, recycling bin

    • understand and name input and output devices

    • understand the difference between hardware and software

    • know common operating systems

    • understand the difference between saving to hard drive, network drive, and USB removable disk

  • Responsible use and understanding of safety:

    • follow rules and procedures for responsible use of devices

    • know how to use a password and the importance of privacy

    • know and respect copyright law

  • Internet

    • know internet safety rules

      • know private information: name, address, phone number, e-mail address

      • know the difference between a user name and a given name and surname

    • use tabbed browsing

    • perform simple searches using a search engine to research and gather information

      • understand and use keywords and search engine modifiers

    • create and use bookmarks

    • evaluate and identify characteristics of high-quality websites

    • understand copyright laws and fair use

  • Coding

    • understand and use block coding​ in programming

    • communicate and collaborate to develop and test programs 

    • understand and use loops

    • apply computational thinking to create and debug programs

    • program robots to solve problems

    • plan and develop code to complete a project
