Digital Literacy

 

  • Use computer terminology appropriately:

    • laptop parts – power button, screen, keyboard, touchpad, mouse button

    • Windows – desktop, icon (symbols used for a program), start menu

  • Identify and use computer parts and applications:

    • use the touchpad/mouse to point and click, double click, click and drag                                                  

    • use letters, numbers and special keys: enter, spacebar, arrows, shift, caps lock

  • Responsible use and understanding of safety:

    • follow rules and procedures for responsible use of devices

    • demonstrate knowledge of electrical safety

    • know how to use a password and the importance of privacy

    • explain how people use many types of technologies in their daily lives

  • Application programs:

    • recognize & use application icons

    • use start menu to open applications

    • create, name, save, print, open, modify, and exit documents

    • print documents

    • use vertical and horizon scroll bar

    • use ribbon tools

    • use vertical and horizontal scroll bar

  • Keyboarding:

    • demonstrate proper hand-finger-body position

    • know the home row keys and finger placement

    • use correct finger reaches from home row to key letters (t, y, g, h, b, n, r, u, e, i, v, m)

    • perform touch typing of home row keys and key letters

    • change font size, color, and typeface

    • demonstrate use and understanding of cursor, spacebar, enter, shift, caps lock, arrow keys, and backspace

  • Spreadsheets and graphing:

    • gather and analyze data

    • understand terms: cell, row, column, range

    • with help from an adult create, edit, save and print simple spreadsheets and graphs (pie, line, picture, bar)

  • Internet:

    • know how to key in an internet address

    • understand that the internet is a network of computers around the world

    • know and follow internet safety rules

      • know private information: name, address, phone number

      • understand the difference between a user name and a given name and surname

    • understand web browser terms and demonstrate use: hyperlink, back, forward, home page, print

    • perform simple searches using a search engine to research and gather information

      • understand and use keywords

    • understand how to use key words in a search

    • collect and organize information

    • understand copyright law
