Digital Literacy

 

  • Use computer terminology appropriately:

    • parts – screen, keyboard, touchpad/mouse, mouse button, headphone jack, pointing stick

    • Windows – desktop, icon (symbols used to represent a program), folder (open, close, minimize, maximize windows), start, task bar, window, recycling bin

  • Responsible use and understanding of safety:

    • follow rules and procedures for responsible use of devices

    • know how to use a password and the importance of privacy

    • know and respect copyright law

  • Keyboarding:

    • demonstrate proper hand-finger-body position

    • know and use the home row keys and correct finger placement and reaches

    • demonstrate use and understanding of cursor, spacebar, enter, shift, caps lock, arrow keys, and backspace

  • Application Programs:                               

    • multitask by opening 2 applications

    • start an application using start menu and desktop icon

    • open, close, minimize, maximize program window

    • create, name, save, modify, print, and exit documents

    • use menu commands and toolbars

    • use vertical and horizon scroll bar

  • Use the computer to present ideas:

    • understand how computers can aid in the presentation of ideas

    • use & apply design templates

    • insert and edit text and font size and typeface

    • insert and resize graphics

    • move and delete presentation elements

    • set up & run a presentation

    • apply animation effects

    • site sources

  • Internet:

    • understand that the internet is a network of computers around the world

    • know internet safety rules

      • know private information: name, address, phone number, e-mail address

      • know the difference between a user name and a given name and surname

    • know how to key in an internet address

    • understand web browser terms and demonstrate use: hyperlink, back, forward, home page, print

    • use the web browser toolbar to navigate between sites using back and forward

    • understand and use tabbed browsing

    • perform simple searches using a search engine to research and gather information

      • understand and use keywords

    • create and use bookmarks

    • use online multimedia and presentation tools

    • understand copyright laws on written materials, photographs, music and video
